Cleaning as you go is the secret to fun and easy cake decorating.Baking and decorating a beautiful cake is no small task. It could take you anywhere from an hour to days from start to finish. Within that timeframe, you are mixing, cooking, prepping, testing and more. The whole process can be chaotic. However, there is one one simple thing you can do to keep your sanity during the cake creation process: keep clean.
To keep your sanity, clean as you go.
Take a look at the equipment required for a cake:
- mixing bowl
- measuring cups
- measuring spoons
- mixing spoon
- whisk
- pan
- tray
- cooling rack
- spoons
- tips
And, that’s just a basic list of items that need to be cleaned. You also have packaging all over the counters, cartons, flour, egg shells and more.
How to handle all this? Just clean as you go. For example, as the trash is created, rather than leave it on the counter, throw it away. For example, I used to leave egg shells besides the mixing bowl. That quickly turned into a mess as they always cracked into smaller pieces then ended up on the floor or elsewhere.
Once you have your cake in the oven, wash everything. This includes the dishes, the counter tops, stove top and anything else that is out of place.
When you are preparing your icing, clean as you go. For example, create the icing, then, mix in your color. Once you have the color you need, wash the spoon or whatever you used to mix the color. Put the icing aside until you need it.
Cleaning as you go helps keep your mind clear and allows you to focus your creative energy on the decorating task at hand.
